Move brings more seamless educational pathways

By Northeast Wisconsin Technical College

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) is welcoming Lakeland University to its main campus. The move that will bring the two institutions together under one roof.
Lakeland will relocate its Green Bay Center to NWTC’s main campus. The center, one of six that Lakeland has in Wisconsin, will be housed in the College of Business building and will include an office presence and dedicated classroom.

Lakeland has had a location in the Green Bay area since 1984, and the move allows the university to continue serving an area that’s come to know Lakeland for the past 40-plus years.
Lakeland President Beth Borgen said the relocation creates a strong synergy between LU and NWTC as both institutions are focused on workforce development, hands-on learning and providing students with multiple opportunities to advance their education.

“Lakeland and NWTC share a vision for a more educated region, and we are passionate about creating easier access for students to achieve their educational goals,” Borgen said. “This move for Lakeland makes so much sense. Many of the students that Lakeland serves in the Green Bay area are NWTC graduates. And now they’ll be able to continue on the pathway to a bachelor’s degree at a campus that already feels like home.”

“NWTC’s core mission extends beyond ensuring that our students graduate, it’s equipping them with the tools needed to reach their ultimate goal – whether that is securing employment or pursuing a 4-year degree. And for those considering the next step in their academic journey, this collaboration will open new doors,” NWTC President Kristen Raney said.
Through the Green Bay Center, Lakeland will offer more than a dozen bachelor’s degree programs as well as four master’s degree programs, which are available online, in person or any combination of the two.

The partnership will allow NWTC graduates to enroll at Lakeland as juniors, receive a 20% tuition discount for undergraduate courses and gain access to credit for prior learning as well as up to a full year of academic credit for work completed through Lakeland’s innovative Cooperative Education program. Lakeland University will begin offering classes directly on NWTC’s campus beginning this summer.

Lakeland and NWTC have a number of signed agreements that create pathways for students who earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree at NWTC to transfer to Lakeland. These pathways give NWTC students a seamless transition into several Lakeland bachelor’s degree programs, such as: accounting, business administration, organizational leadership & development and others.

NWTC and Lakeland’s relationship serves to strengthen and expand educational opportunities for those in the region and also maximize the student experience, administrators say.
“It’s exciting to see private and public institutions working together for a common good – helping our students achieve their educational goals while aligning with regional workforce development needs,” Borgen said.
