Brazosport College recently launched the Momentum Scholars Program, a new initiative designed to put eligible students on a fast track to academic and career success by covering the full cost of tuition, fees and course e-books.
“At Brazosport College, our mission is centered on student success and access to opportunity,” BC President Vincent Solis said. “The Momentum Scholars Program ensures that cost is not a barrier for students who are ready to commit to their education, while also providing the guidance and support that helps them persist and complete their degree.”
The Momentum Scholars Program is a “first-dollar” scholarship, meaning funds are applied before other financial aid. This structure allows students to use additional aid to help cover living expenses while pursuing their first associate or bachelor’s degree.
The Momentum Scholars Program is also a re-investment program, with college resources being re-invested into the people living in the communities Brazosport College serves.
In addition to financial support, Momentum Scholars receive comprehensive guidance throughout their academic journey to help build long-term educational and career momentum.
Accepted students receive a scholarship covering 100% of tuition, fees and myBC Books (e-books) toward a first associate or bachelor’s degree. Participants also receive personalized support and connections to Brazosport College services, along with structured program meetings that include orientation, regular check-ins, cohort activities and community service experiences.
“The Momentum Scholars Program is designed to create both structure and support for students from Day 1,” said Samantha Gathright, Momentum Scholars Program manager. “By combining a first-dollar scholarship with intentional programming and consistent engagement, we are helping students stay focused, build momentum and move confidently toward their academic and career goals.”
Program space is limited, and students who meet minimum eligibility requirements will be considered, with priority given to those who reside in the Brazosport College service area.
Investing in students
The Momentum Scholars Program is only one of multiple initiatives in which Brazosport College is intentionally reinvesting in its students by removing barriers and expanding pathways to success.
Brazosport College is also preparing to expand access within its nursing program by pursuing approval for a part-time track, with a request to be submitted to the Texas Board of Nursing in late Spring 2026. Similar to the Momentum Scholars Program, the part-time nursing track is a re-investment program that aims to cover 100% of all tuition, fees and books for eligible applicants.
This proposed option would allow students to better balance work, family and other life responsibilities while completing a rigorous and highly respected nursing program that traditionally requires a significant time commitment.
Additionally, the college recently launched the Blue Line Scholars Program for students in BC’s Law Enforcement Academy. The Blue Line Scholars program supports students pursuing careers in law enforcement by guiding them through the academy application process and providing continued support throughout the program, helping students navigate the demanding pathway with clarity and confidence.
Together, these reinvestment programs represent Brazosport College’s commitment to expand access while reduce obstacles and supporting students every step of the way.
